SATA problem

    I have an older PC on XP 764 RAM P4 2.8 ghz.

    The hard drives are IDE but tody I bought a PCI SATA card and a SATA drive I have installed the card but when I start the computer stalls at the Compaq screen (it's a Compaq) but if I turn the PC on and let it boot up then plug the HD in it works fine.

    Any ideas how to sort this out?

    Would it be set to master?

    I can't see any jumpers on it like you get on ide.

    I have looked around and found this PDF

    I have tried the auto flash ones they have on there site but the PDF is confussing can anyone explain it to me?
