Sound on laptop

Hi all

Just turned on my laptop and the onboard sound has stopped working. It was working fine just last night. I checked device manager and it has an "!" on the description, giving the following error :

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter for this device.

(which I did but there is only a blank screen)

I can't think what to do, any help would be appreciated. Here are my laptop spec's...

try reinstalling the driver...
if it doesn't work...maybe the chip on audio inside is damage..
short circuit may have cause it...

 

Here is the ACER support page. Choose Notebook, Acer 3630, and then:
Chipset: SiS M661MX
Audio: Reaktek AC '97 Audio Driver

Download both and install, (Chipset first)

Hey guys.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get it working. Bought this laptop second hand from a friend, and have never formatted it since. It needs a clean up, so cluttered with ... only slightly useful stuff. :-D

Will get to a clean install after I downloaded all the drivers. It came with no windows XP disc, though it has a key on the underneath. I'm sure I'll have no problems after a good re-format.
