Default Need help with wireless router

Hi all, (also posted this on New Member Thread)

Hopefully someone will be able to help me. I've tried everything I can think of and don't seem to be having any luck!

I purchased myself a new iphone during the week. I have wireless internet at home (am currently using a Netgear router) and was really excited to get started on my iphone through my wireless internet. Only problem was that I forgot my password so decided to reset the router and start again. Ever since I did that I now can't get the router to work properly. My computer recogises it but won't give me an IP address. When I click on the repair button it just comes up with "acquiring IP address" but doesn't seem to get to one. Have reset both modem and router a number of times. Also ran the ipconfig /release etc that I found on another post on this forum but that just told me my IP address is 0.0.0.0.

Am using XP on an Acer laptop.

Any suggestions?? Hoping someone has some idea of how to fix this! I really want to play with my iphone...
Thanks

Omitch

Three quick things to check.

1) Make sure your own PC wireless connection properties are set to Obtain IP address automatically and the same for DNS. (This is in case you had a fixed IP address and now the router has changed to another IP range).

2) The Netgear default factory logon and password is generally;

Username: 'admin'
Password:'1234' or would you believe 'password' depending on model

3) In the Netgear router make sure that DHCP is switched on ' Use Router as DHCP Server"

I think you are going to have to connect into your router to reset the dial up to your provider your router documentation will tell you how to do it. You could start by connecting to your router. Netgear routers typically use 192.168.0.1. as their IP.

Okay I just went into the Netgear site for you

Quote:
# Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
# Open an Internet explorer and type the router IP address which would be either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 (by default, refer to your product documentation ti determine the default IP address.) in the address bar and press Enter.
The Login window will be prompting for a Username and Password. The default Username is admin and the default Password is password
# Click Wireless Settings under Setup menu.
You must have a internet connection if you can read this so here is the address for full instructions

Thank you all for your help. I had actually tried going to the Netgear site and entering the admin/password but that didn't work either. After a bit more mucjing around I found that the Microsoft Firewall was ON when I normally have it off (have a firewall on my virus checker) so after turning the Firewall OFF it worked for a few minutes! Then dropped out again but my brother was able to pick up my internet on his laptop so I knew it wasn't the router but my laptop. Eventually worked it all out! But thank you to those who responded to my message.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

Omitch
