Multiple Monitor Issues

Hello,

I have just recently purchased a second monitor and am having issues getting multiple monitors to work. I hooked it up and it displays the screen on both monitors properly until windows starts and then the second one stops receiving signal. I have an nvidia geforce 6600gt. This is my first time using multiple monitors but i have already tried standard troubleshooting, or atleast what i have found online. any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. If you open Display Properties, do you see the two monitors graphically represented there? Have you enabled the second one by checking the box for "Extend my desktop to this monitor"?

What is the "standard troubleshooting" you tried?
