Pioneer DVR-111D Won't Burn DVD's (WinME)

I'm using Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 with all the latest updates from their website installed on a Win ME based PC. I replaced my Lite-On junk for Pioneer DVR-111D DVD-RW about a year ago and it's been working fine for viewing DVD's - still does.
However I've just bought some DVD-RW's (Maxell 4x 4.7GB/120 min) and for the first time ever tried to burn a DVD.
It doesn't work.
EZCD reports that it can't find a DVD burner on the system.
I downloaded and ran all the Adaptec ASPI Layer stuff - won't work still.

I've got 2 versions of aspichk.exe, one reports all OK but tells me I'm running Win95. The other tells me it's Win ME (correct) but 2 files are missing.

When I put a blank DVD-RW in the drawer my Windows sees it as a 600mb CD.

Any ideas anyone? PLEEEEEEEEEEEASSSSSSSSE!!!!!!!!!!!:confused

 

Get Nero's Info tool (its free) and check you firmware on that drive.

OK Geeksville, listen up.

It works.

I spotted that driver entry for "nero95.vxd" in the listings below which made me suspicious 'cos I ain't had Nero Burning ROM on this PC for about 6 years. So I shifted it and removed all the registry keys I found with that name, re-booted and Presto! I just formatted a DVD-RW disc with Direct CD and copied a movie file onto it, leaving 3.8GB of empty space!

The disc information now reads correctly too; windows sees it as 4.7GB DVD-RW and not a non-writeable 648MB CD-ROM.

I got rid of Nero all those years ago because it just stopped working one day. I tried numerous re-installs etc. but nothing worked so I dumped it. I also performed various operations to clean out all the c**p because I learned that it can be difficult to shift. Seems like a bit of it got left behind after all and jammed the wheels.
