im thinking about getting a new graphics card (mine isnt all that powerful) and getting another internal hard drive. My question is, do either of the above require any soldering or tricky things like that or do they just need to be screwed into place?

No no soldering is required for either, only fixing screws and push on plugs.

I would seriously advise you to post some system details and future requirements, for advice on choosing the upgrade components.

Use what Fred has posted and then post a PC summary in a .txt file (deleting any private info). Then it can be assessed what sort of Video Card you maybe able to get.
