computer not recognizing monitor properly

I got a Gateway GT5692 from Best Buy. Due to a free offer I had geek Squad "clean" my computer before I brought it home. When I plug my 19" flatpanel monitor into the pc, it is only being recognized as pnp and it won't give me the resolution options for the widescreen on the monitor.

I am using the standard cable that came with the pc not hdmi. Is that was is causing the problem or did something get removed in the geek squad "help" that shouldn't have. Since I haven't really done much with it I am thinking I should just restore it to factory defaults and go from there. Any suggestions?

Welcome to MajorGeeks! Hard to say what to do about the Geek Squad. Are they stocking dirty computers, and offering to clean them?:-D

I would try re installing the driver for the integrated video. I think this is the one you need. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/integrated-vista64
