hi, i have an emachines t3085 which i recently removed from storage; the machine in its OEM condition. i am looking to connect it to my home network and i'd like to do so wireless. as a 1000% non-tech person, i'd like to know whether this machine can hold a wireless card? (BTW - i am not for anything fancy.) if so, can you send link to site and specific card to purchase? alternatively, if the machine does not hold a wireless card, are there alternative-work-around-ways to connect wirelessly? thanks much appreciated.

Welcome to Major Geeks! ![]() You can use any wireless device you want. Either an internal PCI card, or an external USB adapter. The USB is alot easier for non-tech people as you don't have to open the case. If you can plug something into a USB port, and pop a CD into the drive, and read a manual, you can install it (reading the manual is optional ). Here's some links:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833130033 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833180017 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833127244 I have used each of the above devices and they all work fine and were easy to install and configure. Remember, you will need a wireless router in order to go online with one the above devices. Without the wireless router, the devices are worthless..... I hope this helps! Good luck! |

Thanks for the reply and advice. I do have a question (well, two): first, does using the usb drives, as opposed to the internal card, have an impact on the connection speed? second, could you send me links to the cards and which one would work for my emachines? thanks again...

A USB wifi device works very well. Plus it has several advantages a)the case does not need to be opened b) since it is on a USB cable, it can be positioned better than a card stuck in the computer c) it can be used in more than one computer. My husband's computer uses a USB dongle to connect to our Linksys router and I do not notice any slow down in speed between his and the other computers on our network.
We use somethin similar to this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124076 that product has speed booster and ours does not.
