    Hi

Could be a few things causing this, from the sensor inside the headphones jack being faulty and not sensing that a headphone plug has been pushed in thus not registering to the PC to turn off the speakers ( depending on age of laptop ), Also if you have driver issues or have re-installed Windows, its possible that the audio driver being used is a default one and does not support headphone switching ( if I have this right, these days this is supported by monitoring the load giving off when pushing in headphones into the socket thus telling the PC to turn off the speakers ), so do you have any yellow ! marks in Device Manager? if so by what?

Also what is your make and model of laptop as you may need to install the latest Audio driver for the laptop make and model.

to making sure that you have plugged the headphones into the headphone socket and not the external speakers socket if present.
