Default antivirus XP08 problem. need help!!

Hello new guy here. I guess you guys have heard of this problem many times before but Antivirus XP 2008 has downloaded itself on my pc 2 days ago. I was able to get rid of it using Spybot ver. 1.6, but my desktop still has the blue screen saying that I must install an antivirus or spyware remover. After trying Spybot numerous times; even during safe mode, it can't locate and solve my problem so I uninstalled it. This is where I am now, stuck with the blue screen of insanity!!

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
  • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
  • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
Notes:
  1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
  2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I am almost finished with step 1. The only problem is the last part of step 1 where I downloaded Ccleaner into my computer. I let it scan my computer and it repaired only six of the total scanned sections. Ccleaner is then prompting me to register and pay for it to repair the remaining 800 something problems left. Is it recommended that I follow the prompt and pay?

NO......there is nothing in the Read and Run instructions to download anything that you have to pay for. What did you download and from where?

I would say that you did not download and use CCleaner from the download links given on the download page. I expect that what you did was click on one of the advertisements on the page and downloaded something else ( like PC Cleaner, RegCure, or Registry Cleaner). Note that our instructions for CCleaner stated to only remove temp files. We do not want you cleaning the registry. The download links for tools at Major Geeks always are under the Free Downloads From text.

In the Read and Run page after "emptying the Norton Protected Recycle Bin" link I clicked this one: Download and install CCleaner. From this page I clicked on the Click Here link besided the bolded recommended download text.

Was I supposed to download the Official CCleaner link in large font?

Ok nevermind. I see it from the Free Downloads text. Thanks.

See the snapshot below (click the thumbnail to expand it) and notice all the links under the test that says Free Downloads From

cc-links.jpg

Any one of those are the links for CCleaner. If you clicked on anything else, you did not download CCleaner.
