    Running XP Pro SP2
    AMD Athlon XP 1700+
ASUS A7N266-VM Motherboard with nForce chipset.
    HD- Seagate Barracuda 40G

Every time i log in to Windows, up pops a popup "Found New Hardware - Generic Volume" and a second later it classifies it as "A problem ocurred during hardware installation. Your hardware might not work properly"

I've narrowed it down to my Optiarc DVD RW, but it seems to be working fine.
Device Manager shows all devices are working properly and even the hidden ones as well.
Tried resetting the DMA mode and drive letter as well as switching jumpers from Master to Slave (its on Secondary) ...still turns up.

    Anyone?

    Thanks

    Problem solved.
Happened to be a registry issue.
System Volume Information value needed to be deleted.
