:confused I had many error messages while using a Magix multimedia project. I contacted their technical support and received the following e-mail/instructions from them. I don't want to do any of this until I run it by this website. I learned the hard way! Please advise and if I have posted this in the wrong forum, please let me know.

We have received and analyzed your Syscheck results. Some problems have been found that we suspect to be directly and indirectly related to your problem. Fixing them might also bring performance and stability benefits beyond the solution to the main problem and beyond the usage of Magix programs.

Here's the list of problems and recommendations on how to overcome them, based on the results of your Syscheck. You don't necessarily have to go for an all-or-nothing approach here. I recommend taking it step by step, starting with the easiest solutions, and seeing how the situation improves. Please consult a technician, if you're not positive that you can perform the needed changes to your system by yourself.

    Main memory error!
Your Computer has logged memory errors in the following buckets:

    1. 0x0D3E7D6D (2008-09-07 22:36:16)
    2. 0x0D3E7D6D (2008-09-07 22:36:13)
    3. 0x1422ACDF (2008-09-06 22:36:55)
    4. 0x2C0D5A1F (2008-09-06 22:36:49)
    5. 0x3684F06C (2008-09-04 13:23:37)
    6. 0x315496D2 (2008-09-03 20:51:55)
    7. 0x3425785E (2008-09-03 20:51:53)
    8. 0x3425785E (2008-08-27 13:30:27)
    9. 0x2C4465BF (2008-08-18 17:35:48)

This is unfortunately not acceptable. Please get the following checked:
    - memory modules (you could test these using the free version of Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com),
    - voltage to the processor,
    - power supply,
    - cooling fan

Your computers main memory (RAM) has a measured speed of 820 MByte/s which is slower than that of similar computers.

You could get the following checked:
    - BIOS settings,
    - Memory Type,
    - Memory installation slots (if DUAL-RAM)

If you decide to buy new memory, and performance is a main concern, then it is recommended that you replace the old modules completely--or the PC may work at the speed of the old memory. It is also not recommended installing more than two memory modules if you want a fast and stable system. However, if you have to install more than two, the speed in the BIOS needs to be reduced. Something which often happens automatically, but with a drastic reduction in performance. In such a case you should perhaps have the system checked.

In addition, there is a maximum amount of memory up to which Windows still functions correctly.

    Windows 2000, XP 2048 MB
    Windows 98, 98se, ME 512 MB

Unfortunately over this, the system becomes unstable.

These errors usually indicate hardware problems.
You could therefore, have the following checked:

    - memory modules (you could test these using the free version of Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com),
    - processor,
    - power supply,
    - cooling fan.

Your BIOS is probably out of date!
Your BIOS version is from 16.02.2004. There should be a newer, improved version for your computer.
The BIOS (basic input output system) is needed for elementary functions of your computer.
Short product cycles of computers have the result that the original BIOS is often faulty with poor performance.
You could therefore, download and install a newer BIOS version from your computers manufacturer's website.

    Search for:

    Vendor: Intel Corporation
    Product: D845GVSR

Your current installed version is: VA84510A.86A.0030.P10.0402160229

Please read the manual of your mainboard or computer to get more information.

This can be caused if you erase a program without un-installing it.
Please reinstall the corresponding software again to solve this error. If desired, you can then uninstall it again via the Control Panel.
This problem can substantially impair the multimedia characteristics of your system and should be taken seriously.

It is possible that you cannot play or record certain audio and video files anymore.

As per your request, the rest of the Syscheck results, although unrelated to your
    problem:

    [ 1.]
Your installed display driver is from 21.06.2005 and older than 1/2 a year. You should renew this.

Please download and install a WHQL certified display driver from this website:

    <http://www.google.com/search?q=Intel+driver+download>

    or here <http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/index.htm>

    [ 2.]
Your installed sound card driver is from 19.07.2002 and is older than 1/2 a year. You should renew this.

please download and install a WHQL certified sound card driver from this website:

    <http://www.google.com/search?q=SB+Live%21+Audio+driver+download>

    [ 3.]
The following programs which have a negative effect on your system were found:

    ctfmon.exe
    - CTF Loader (Microsoft Corporation)

These programs specifically, but also other programs can affect performance, hinder burning or even reduce system stability when running in the background.
Maybe you could check that only the most important programs are started at start-up. The other programs can then be started when you need them and you can always reactivate them in the start-up if you want to.

These programs may start automatically, also without your desire and may cause problems, such as crashes, lack of storage, slow operating speed etc.
Solve the problem with the tool "MSCONFIG"
The "MSCONFIG" program deactivates/activates auto-starting entries in your Windows system.

To open and run "MSCONFIG", please click start/run and type in the command "MSCONFIG" and click OK. Now click on the tab "STARTUP", now you will see a list of programs that startup when windows is started. Please un-check the unwanted programs by deactivating the tick in each little box, click "Apply"
    and then click OK.

If you have Windows XP, all the programs can be removed even if they sound important e.g. printer monitors, scanner programs, Office-start, Indexer, USB devices, sound card accessories (but, I would NOT remove antivirus or other security programs). Many are really not important but require system power!
Please note: you can always reactivate these programs if you find they are needed for something specific or after you have finished a "Video Editing Session".

NOTE!! If for any reason you deactivate your Virus scanner or other security programs, please make sure you do not connect to the Internet before reactivating them.

For these changes to take effect you must reboot your computer. You may be very astonished at how fast your computer starts up and works.

    [ 4.]
The following drivers which possibly conflict with other programs on your computer were found:

    GEARAspiWDM.sys
    - CD DVD Filter (GEAR Software Inc. - V.2.0.7.3)

    drvmcdb.sys
    - Device Driver (Sonic Solutions - V.9.10.7.0)

    PXHELP20.SYS
    - Px Engine Device Driver for Windows 2000/XP (Sonic Solutions - V.3.0.56.0)

These drivers start-up automatically and obstruct the CD burning process in many burning programs.
You could try solving this problem by:

    1. Deactivating the related programs using MSCONFIG.

    [ 5.]
ASPI error! Your ASPI is not correctly installed!
ASPI is needed, for example, to read digital audio CD's and also for burning CD's.
Please download and reinstall the ASPI driver from Adaptec's website.

    <http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2.exe>

    [ 6.]
Possible error in IRQ channels that are being used together!
In your system the following IRQs (interrupt requests) are being used by several devices at the same time:

    IRQ 16: Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller (Intel Corporation) IRQ 16: Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2 (Intel)

This may drastically decrease the performance of your PC and may not be suitable for many devices.

If your PC often "Hangs" or simply keeps rebooting and/or displays a "Blue Screen", the problem specified here can be the cause. To solve the problem, you can deactivate unused interfaces, e.g. Modem, MPU401, Parallel and Serial devices in the BIOS, and you could get the PCI cards installed into other PCI locations. All of these devices must have their own IRQ chanel for interrupt requests.

    Generally:
USB, network and FireWire card's get along well with one another and can share IRQ channels.

Graphic, Sound, TV Capture, SCSI, IDE (RAID) and Satellite (DVB) card's often cannot share their IRQ channels together with other devices.
And if they do work, then only with a substantial reduction in system performance.

    I hope this helps.
