Default Mouse sensitivity too high, touchpad too low

Recently I've bought a 'Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000' to replace my old rollerball mouse, but it is sooo sensitive.

So I lowered the sensitivity via the control panel mouse window (Windows XP) however this also lowers the cursor speed my touchpad makes which then is way to slow.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to lower the sensitivity just for my new optical mouse?

The mouse settings in windows apply to all mice, so you cant set separate settings with it for each mouse.
I think you have to set the windows mouse settings so that it fits your touchpad and then use some other software to adjust the sensitivity for the wireless mouse.
Here's a link MS Intellipoint which should work with your mouse. Maybe you have installed it already if it came on a CD with your mouse:

I dont know if this will work as I dont use Intellipoint myself, but I suggest you install it and see if you can adjust the sensitivity for the wireless mouse there without it affecting the touchpads sensitivity.

Thanks for the reply. I have however already downloaded that software. All that I gained was a few extra tabs allowing me to edit what the buttons do, and view the battery life.

Unfortunately no new adjustment to sensitivity just for the mouse is provided.
