My computer is a PIV; it's motherboard is Intel Billings 2 D845EBG2 (6 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DIMM, Audio)
with 1024 Mb in a desktop box.
I have just installed an Inno 3D FX-5500-AGP-DVI-TV card with 128 Mb.
My problem is, that the card is permanently in VGAsave mode,
although I have downloaded and installed several (the latest one I have found with support for FX-5500 : 163.71,
    although this one is for Win2K but NVIDA search for the card AND XP dropped out this one;
and some older driver also from 2005: 71.84 ) drivers from nvidia.com.
I run Windows XP with service pack 2 (Hungarian version).
Also, I have installed motherboard chipset driver from Intel website.
Installing NVidia drivers ends with an error message which says translated from
Hungarian to English "parameter is not correct" (or something such).
I tried to install in safe mode, and retriving the setup.exe and from
device manager, too. I have already tried to clean nvidia drivers with
driverclean, and also to clean nvidia branch from registry
(in safe mode, because it was not possible in standard mode).
The best I have reached until now, that Nvidia driver setup correctly
wrote (when I installed it from device manager with "refreshing" the vgasave dirver
from filesystem) that my card is Geforce FX-5500, but setup could not finished either.

Please, help me, what should I do to setup this card?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you: have done the following:
I have uninstalled the actual NVidia driver.
    Restarted.
Downloaded and installed the 93.71 (2006-10-22) you had linked in.
    Restarted.
Thre hardware wizard popped up and have found Nvidia Geforce FX 5500, then after copying driver files it ended with the next message:
    Translation from Hungarian:
"Errors were in the setup of the device: The parameter is not correct".
The used driver is still vgasave.

I have also tried to uninstand install the driver from VGA mode, and selectd start mode (via msconfig I disabled anything which is not icrosoft basic service). So Nvidia setup desperately wanted to close the hardver install panel (which was not opened) to continue, and then closed up without any change. No I have cleaned up NVidia drivers, and I could not install a new one.
