Will appreciate if somebody will direct me to a guide how to use a DVD Rewritable disks. My computer is runnung Win XP SP3, and Nero 6. My DVD drive is a LG GSA H44N. Have no problem to burn data on disk (+RW) , but can not save the file after making some changes to it. I get a message that the file is read only. I must save the file in "My Documents" and re-burn it on the disc. I naively thought that it will behave same as a 1.44MB floppy. I am probably way off.
I know that it sounds pretty stupid. Can somebody help? Thanks.

the thing about rw is that if you burn something to it you'll have to run an erasing process before you burn it again, try using nero or download img burn and try to burn something else it automatically delets the data on there plus since it only burns cd images it will create them for you just explore it and see what you think the only thing it can't do is extract images but you have rw you can burn the image and take the fies off the disk manually

I can't speak to DVD's, but I have never had anything but bad experiences with rewritable CD's. It didn't seem to matter the brand of CDRW or the burner. Data corruption when you least expected or wanted it. I'd stick with normal DVD-R's, flash drives, or, best of all, an external portable hard drive in a size that suits your needs.

I'd have to agree. I used to use Cd-RW's for printing pictures at Sam's and Walgreen's. I'd get about 30 or so RW cycles out of them, and then they would just stop working. Some I wouldn't even get that much.

Makes a lot of sense! Many thanks.

Sometimes they'd read fine at first when I stored something on the CDRW, but when I took it off the shelf 6 or 12 months later I'd get read errors. Not worth the chance. Another problem would be when you tried to read them on drive other than the one you had burned the disk with. More errors.

Thanks, Frapper. I think that I will revert to a flash drive. Barelij

    HI All,

Been using Roxio V.6 CD/RW for years on 98SE with no proplems until I loaded XP on one of my comps. With the Roxio R/RW stuff that came on XP I had nothing but problems. I finally loaded Roxio 6 on the XP. Cured all my problems. You get much better control of what's going on. Have just loaded XP Home on #1 Comp. Same problems. When I get time will load Roxio 6. Hope this helps someone.

    Good Luck, Jim

But at some point you'll find yourself running Vista or Windows 7, and you won't be able to use Roxio 6. Then you probably won't be able to read those older CD's. Something to bear in mind for the future.

Hi Frapper. Good point, even so that I am using Nero 6, not Roxio. (I must say that in the past I used Roxio, and I liked it more). The way things look now, I will revert to a flash drive, like a 8 or 16 GB disk on key for important files, and back it up with the rest of my computer on an external hard drive.
And in the future, when I will switch to Widows 7, if the Nero 6 won't work, will upgrade it to a newer version.
    Thanks again, Barelij.
