AVG won't start, uninstall, reinstall!!!!

AVG has been working fine on my system, now it won't load.
When I hit the AVG8 icon I get the following message:

C:\program files\avg\avg8\avggui.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

When I try to uninstall or repair I get this message:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005

 

How were you trying to repair. Do you have the installer?

Are you trying to uninstall from add/remove and getting an error?

If you have the installer and it's not repairing or removing use -

Make sure Revo removes all traces from registry as well.

Download AVG8 from
http://majorgeeks.com/AVG_AntiVirus_Free_Edition_d886.html

Choose to custom install and uncheck links scanner/safe search when installing.

I was reading through a two page thread about the same error on the avg free forum

Most seem to have another error about permissions when they attempt to view the registry key mentioned.

I'll see if I can find any other info with that error.

 

I find another method that seems to work for the uninstall and reinstall when other things failed.
