Please tell me what I should do next. When I run ComboFix it hangs and requires a power_down_power_up re boot (no keyboard entries are accepted).
During ComboFix start up it reports that Norton is running It is NOT running. It has been removed from my system (control panel Add or Remove Programs) I am using Avira which I have disabled (closed umbrella) Asks if I wish it to disable Norton. I reply Yes. It reports it is not able to do so. Continuing to run it asks about installing Windows Recovery Console I tell it to install; it down loads; the screen shows many #### 100%. And then hangs I tried running without requesting Recovery Console It begins Scanning for infected files; changes clock Reports completed stages: Completed Stage ..3. And then hangs. I have waited as long as over night after the program stops updating the screen. I have been trying to remove a virus. I Have: run Ccleaner; Avira; removed java; set msconfig to normal; run SuperAntiSpyware; SpyBot and AntiMalware. All of the programs terminated normally and reported problems found and fixed. The computer seems to be running as it used to. Should I skip ComboFix going on to MGTools? If so how do I reset my clock? Or should I wait for advice on how to get ComboFix to run? Thanks for any help you may be able to give me. |

Looks like the scans took care of most of it.
![]() Let's just do this: Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished): Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now: Quote:
Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry. Quote:
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work. Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop. * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it. * Do not change any check box options!! * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window: Quote:
* Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute. * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running. * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself. * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot. Now run CCleaner --> both the cleaner and the registry ( making sure to do the backup when prompted). Now download and install: Java Runtime 6 Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger. Be sure to tell us how things are running.

I was able to successfully complete all the steps in your instructions of feb 19
fixME.reg reported success I include: avenger.txt; MGlogs.zip ***BUT*** the above was not begun until after the computer crashed and would not re boot; Reported a problem with a config file; Would boot into safe mode but no restart points would work I Switched off the WiFi transmitter and the computer booted properly at which time I followed the feb 19 instructions It seems to be running properly now. Have done a few scans; no problems reported. But when the WiFi transmitter switch is on the computer will not boot Thank you for all your help. I have the "Toshiba Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD" but I can't find explicit instructions for its use Do you think I should try a partial reinstall or should I buy the proper cable and plug into my wireless router |

You can use the CD to reinstall the drivers for the Wifi card....though I have not experienced a situation where a Wifi card would crash the computer. I suggest that you post in the software section and give them the error message that you get from the BSOD.
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
