Heya. I am about to order a new computer and I cant make up my mind between a Nvidia Geforce GTX 280 or CrossfireX Dual ATI Radeon HD4870.
The Radeon is $150 more but I have always been more partial to Nvidia. If the Dual 4870 is just slightly better, then i may go with the 280.

    Thanks:)

I asume your talking about the 1GB 4870?

I have the Sapphire HD 4870 1GB GDDR5, it is awesome & I plan to crossfire it some time soon :)

Last nVidia card I had was the Zotac 9600GT 512MB GDDR3 & the 4870 is miles ahead.

Where are you getting your prices. I might be able to cut the price for you.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of ATI, but until they come up with numbering that makes sense again, I'm sticking with nVidia.

    Numbering, what do you mean?

    Clock speed, VRAM size?

    :confused

I mean the actual names. I look at nVidia and I know that the 9800 is better than the 9600. I look at the ATI cards and have no idea which is the best.

Well the HD4870 x2 is the fastest ATI card. That would be the approx. order:
    HD3850<HD3870<HD3850 X2<HD4830<HD3870 X2<HD4850<HD4870<HD4870 X2.

I stand proudly with the 4870 1GB Sapphire.

    Here is a quick comparison:

    XFX GeForce 295 GTX DDR3: http://www.xfxforce.com/en-gb/ShoppingTools/ProductComparison.aspx

    Sapphire Atomic HD 4870 X2 GDDR5: http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=274&grp=3

If you think the Atomic 4870 X2 must be better than the standard Sapphire model it has a sligtly higher core clock by 50MHz & it's better cooled, this is the standard 4870 X2: http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=251&grp=3

As you can see the 4870 X2 is far better even though it's much older :-D (newest card though)
