So I'm looking into building a computer and wanted to stick to using a 32-bit OS for now because the support for the others is a little shotty, but I wanted to put 8 GB of RAM in it so I wouldn't have to upgrade for a while, but realized that in doing that I would only use 3.8 GB tops in a 32 bit system.
All of that to say, I looked on here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx
I noticed that window's server 2003/2008 had some editions that supported more than that, so would it be a dumb idea to use windows server for home computing? Any other thoughts on this problem? Thanks,

If you're talkign about the largeaddressaware flag that would puit use on an exe it only works for some applications and even then.. Your system will not be able to locate more than the 3.8GB because 2^32 limits it, however if you're running 64bit tis 2^64 which is like billions of gigabytes.

If you're talking about Physical Address Extension (PAE) dont bother its not going to work, I had 6GB with PAE enabled only used 3.7ish while windows saw there was 6GB woudlnt use the rest. I just moved over to a 64 bit OS problem solved.

Conclusion: Using a server OS is not going to help you you will still only be able to use 3.8GB you need a 64bit OS to use more.
