I am running Windows XP 64 bit and my firewire port keeps dropping out. I know there is a Windows fix(udpate) for XP 32 bit but it won't install under 64 bit. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I really need this port.
    Thanks,

I recommend consulting Microsoft, and their knowledge database on this issue. Have you searched their forums?

Firewire is old news, and it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't a fix just yet.

By the way, what is your "make and model"?

    System Manufacturer ASUSTEK COMPUTER INC

    BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 2704, 3/20/2008
    SMBIOS Version 2.4
    Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.2.3790.3959 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)"

I use it for recording music and have a Tascam FW1884 DAW controller that is connected by 1394 Firewire. Unfortunately, the firewire ports (I have two on my ASUS board) do not work with XPx64. I tried installing a hotfix for XP32 but it wouldn't install. The Tascam controller is state of the art and will only connect via firewire. I have been able to get everything else working including MIDI patchbay (USB2), HP DVDR (USB2), Yamaha CDR (USB2), EMU 1818m Sound card, NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Video card, Espon Expression 1680 Scanner, Xerox 8440 Laserjet Network Printer, Agere Systems USB2 Soft Modem (fax). I run Explorer 7 Both 32 and 64 bit). Do you know of any way to get these firewires up and running? Thanks, KennyL

Thanks for the link. I have already installed the updated Tascam driver. For the brief periods when the firewire works, the Tascam mixer works perfectly. Unfortunately, this is short lived and it drops out after less than 2 minutes. The I must close all programs, reboot and try again. What I find interesting is that the firewire will connect, it is just unstable. This is definately an XP64 issue. KennyL

Yep, I wholly concur. It's a shame about Firewire, especially the way it gets treated. It does have many superior qualities. :)
