    Hi All,

    Right here goes,

I have recently suffered from BSOD which knackered my hard-drive up.

Anyway, finally got round to getting new 400 gig one yesterday and after trying to install i am now getting the following problem.

    1. Take for every for the Vista disc to Boot ( slow at installing also )
    2. When installed and then restarts i get a dos message saying
"ress any key to boot from cd.... ( OK FINE ) then after that it says "disk error" underneath that press ctrl+alt+del.

This means it will not finish the install.

I then tried to format the drive but now showing 3 drives
    the first one reads 1mb
the second 398gig ( which is the main drive c: )
then another which also shows 1mb

    any ideas!

    thanks
    simon

Did you format the new drive from the install? Also sounds possible the Vista CD is damaged.

No as i thought Vista give you the option on install??

how do i get rid of these rogue 1mg drives, think they could have something to do with it

Before you install vista, it lets you choose the drive to install on, you could delete all the partitions from there and then create a single partition with a fast NTFS format, then install to it. Try that.

did that..which was all fine but it will not give me the option to delete the 1mb ones
i will give a copy of xp a try incase it is cd.

just tried swapping the drive and using another copy ( perfect disc ) of xp
    still same problem

after formatting hardrive the pc then reboots as normal then it says
    a disc read error occurred
    press ctrl + del

dont know if it is trying to read from the hard drive and that is why the error has occurred ???
