Best alternative to CHKDSK?

I find the standard Windows CHKDSK to be uninformative (particularly when running it in-OS, not in startup) and desire more specific details about what's going on in my hard drives. So, what hard drive probing applications do you favour over CHKDSK?

Yes, its fine for checking the status of your HD, in Temps, Smart status, then it also does a scandisk for errors and unlike Windows it gives you a graphical representation of the HDDs blocks, so Green good, Red bad, you get event logs of what you have done.

Plus its free for personal use, worth a try at least.


note: as I forgot, if your using Vista then you need to run this app as Admin (can set this auto in the apps shoutcut > properties > compatability tab and tick the bottom option to run as admin
