I found myself on the same boat as Neptune, with a slow computer for anything... even while typing a simple text on Notepad the computer would "eat" some keys, leaving me with an incomplete text and driving me mad. So I found out that manually closing infocard.exe WLIDSVC*.exe helped a lot the computer performance.. and googling about it its how I got here...

Since Neptune got no answer about which service corresponds to the infocard.exe (and I got unable to reply on his thread, I'm posting here):

Infocard.exe belongs to the Windows CardSpace service, while WLIDSVC.exe belongs to the Windows Live-Id Assistant..

Disabling both services worked fine for me, and I also had to disable their complements/accelerators on ie8.

Disabling it all made me happy, because now I can type back on Notepad/Word with no issues.. but Text Editing on IE8 (for example here on this post) is still damn slow and with missing letters...

Hopefully I'll find the reason for that someday!

Regarding virus and or malware, 15 years fixing computers made me have no issues with it

(mbam/avast/avg reports its all clean aswell, and pc specs ain't bad... asus p4 3.0, 2gb, xp home oem)
