Was Vista the new Windows millenium?

With Windows 7 having a release date is it time already to look back at Vista for what it really is?

I compare Vista to M.E because it wasnt the mainstay platform for as long as Vista should have been and also the somewhat hurried announcement of Windows 7 sort of like M.E and 2000.

Some people love Vista some hate it, i myself spent about an hour on it trying to install a game, on a friends new machine, to find out that an internet explorer setting was stopping the game from running...and the guy wasnt even online or even had a i-net connection...good lord give me the strength.

I havent looked at windows seven but hopefully its not all littered with many sub menus which was the way of Vista and office 2007, I still have users on office 2007 who still want to go back to 2003 they "hate 2007". Now thats a strong word but its not my words it's the typing pool feedback.

For future releases perhaps an option would be have a skin chooser with the o.s instead of finding one from another source, so people can slide into the new features without an entire new interface. My experience is once people get used to the application they then tend to worry about the interface, where as the recent vista and office release its been the other way around "trying to navigate on an alien landscape".

One other piece of advice - if it works dont fix it.

Anyway thats my break and thats my rant :p - feel free to add your own thoughts on this one.
Microsoft..want your products to sell ...Keep it simple...dont jump ahead light years and put in entire new interface, not if you want your products to sell well.

DomLuc you make some valid points, yes the days of a preinstalled O.S are numbered...about time. Cloud is the way to go so I have been hearing for sometime.

I am interested in knowing though, I have to admit I havent looked into this, is cloud going to still work during sun spots or other astrological events, or is the whole business not even going to start because no one can upload there profile or o.s to a p.c?

I would say their is no resemblance between M.E. and Vista Noda , None
M.E. was and still is the worst OS released year to date. (even after service packs) Lets not forget that M.E. *CREATED* the well known BSOD(the real one)

Most People hate vista because of the learning curve(don't know how to tweak it like XP) or they tried it before SP1. Things are not where they used to be thing are done differently then in XP or the program does not work in Vista(now it most likely does) or they just got so accustomed to Xp since it was out for so long and didn't like the change Or the fact that their old PC can't handle it.

It shocks me though how much slag Vista gets from XP users....
They must not remember what it was like when Xp first came out It was so problematic that it earned the name EXTRA PROBLEMS.(check ANY forum post from around that time)
Going from 2000 (one of the most stable OS for its time) to Xp before SP1 was like a death sentence.

Comparing the release of XP to Vista I see no differences at all!

Problems Xp had when 1st released
    1. compatibility hardware / software
    2. System requirements
    3. Crashed often!!!!!!!!!!
    4. was not ready for release

As far as it taking an hour to install a game sounds like their was defiantly an underline problem I have installed countless games on ALLOT of vista systems(32 and 64) and never had it take an hour to do
Unless the game was not patched for vista or a Protection problem (steam secure ROM etc...) and I had to mess with it to get it to work

From what I've seen of Vista I don't like it. It seems to treat users like little kids - hiding all the good stuff so they don't get into trouble. UAC! Yes a lot of stuff is moved - but more is just plain missing. They still need a true "Windows Classic" theme. Like in Win 7 I had to down load a plug in to put toolbars back in Explorer, I want more that 2 buttons!!!
Also I CAN run as Admin - it is MY COMPUTER!! I hate being told I can't access files on my PC. I OWN YOU PC!!!! I'd agree some users don't need to look beyond the desktop. It is like the OS is becoming less an OS and more a software platform. Just look at the smoke & mirrors & ignor the stuff behind the curtain. I'll just have to bite the bullet and learn this new OS (7, that is) which from my first couple of uses seems to mock the interface of Vista, with less UAC prompts.

I was trying to fix my gf's wireless on her Vista laptop and was using the links in Vista and I kept clicking a link and nothing happened, finally I realized the link was for the page I was currently on? That made zero sense! basically a link to itself. duh.

I remeber using Win98se and everyone was talking about XP & how much better it was, while plenty of us were sticking to 98, but eventually gave in as more support was given to XP.

But I believe it will be the ME of its day, that is why 7 is being pushed out, so Vista can be swept away like ME.

Ahh the presentation of a Windows 98 beta by Bill Gates at COMDEX on April 20, 1998 the most famous public BsoD

What I meant with the * * (I should use syntax thats universal) that ONE of the blue screens in M.E. was actually death the system was toast until OS was redone on it in 98\Se I and every one I knew at the time could get around them but in M.E this was not always the case
M.E is the only OS that had a BsoD that I could not get around all the time
This is what I meant by *Created* the real one
