    Hi just a rant...

I am so sick of looking for drivers and only coming up with dead sites and b.s that loops around and around to the same pages all to get you to visit all the advertising and ending up at Driver Detective or similar...which isnt supported by all the Win 98se units which i have to do a lot of rebuilds for, these are ex-stock being sold off with the old O.S's.

I know the driver I want... apparently the link says its on a site but can i get to it?... without stupid dead pages... or dead links or worse the dreaded Driver Detective this is almost like malware ( i am sure its probably a good app) i cant escape this just about everywhere i surf... and it certainly doesnt help me...:p

Can anyone reccommend another site apart from here of course, that has squidzillions of 98 drivers? that are still able to be downloaded without having to navigate through fifteen pages to get to it...?

thanks in advance for any idea's...poor me having to look for an operating system drivers that are over 10 years old...pooh:cry

Guess that would depend on what drivers you are looking for. And I am moving this to software for better responses. :)

I go to the manufacturer's website and grab the drivers from there. Then I burn them to a CD.
On a unknown computer I received, I loaded Bealrc or Everest so I could learn the motherboard. I then went to Intel's site and grabbed every driver I could find for this model motherboard.

Is it really worth time spent on an OS that hasn't been supported since July 2006? I'd either try something more secure in the windows line or load it with a linux distro; at least it would be safer on the internet. It is getting harder to find security programs that will work on 98. There are some but the numbers are dwindling. I also know from helping others that you can't buy a printer that will work on 98. You will be stuck buying a used one.

    Hey there plodr,

Yeah, i really like Everest, it certainly has helped.

I dont particularly like installing such an outdated O.S, this is a constraint for these builds, as these units are being sold to students - one part of the business at work.

Whats more frustrating is when you have been trying to download the drivers and the online manual is incorrect..gosh! to be polite.

I have taken to just using the chipset drivers from everest and quite often have to source the video and audio separately. This is where the time trap of the driver hunt starts..looks like a promising site, have the hardware identified, but no - a dead link or pointing to a driver updating tool. This is why the moan from yestersday.

However there was one site that was quite good, it may help others, but i have looked at so many recently sort of forgot its address...think it was olddrivers.com or similar.

It seems gone are the day's where you could just google the hardware, find the driver and be able to download it within one or two pages from the link..nowdays you get to a promising site and go around and around and end up at the updater tool...hmmph...getting old i guess, it used to be relatively easy.

I suppose when i get the next O.S to install the drivers will still be available and can use one of the updating tools thus theroetically making finding drivers a sinch.

Again thats my break and updated rant.

    Have a good one;)

The poor students have my sympathy when they discover they will have a hard time finding a printer to work. For me, being able to print is a necessity, not a luxury.
