Net to block internet access

    I have a program that constantly is "calling home" and then gives me pop ups for options to "upgrade" the program from free to professional. I know there is a way to go into the windows folder and to a file to edit it in notepad to block the program from accessing, yet I have failed to remember.

    Your help is greatly appreciate!!
