Here's a great place to find specs for your computer.
http://www.everymac.com/systems/index.html

Is it one of the funky colored ones? If so it has a maximum of a 400 MHz G3 750 processor and came with OS 8.6. It is upgradable to OS 10.3.9 (Panther).

Will it boot? If so, go to the Apple menu and click on 'About This Mac'. This will tell you what OS is running and details about the processor and memory.

You can probably get Panther disks somewhere on eBay, just be very careful to verify you are getting the full retail version and not an upgrade disk.

Before you upgrade, you'll probably need to run this firmware update.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75130

The installer will be 10.3. You can use this to upgrade to 10.3.9.

Those two links are for OS X Server, which is not what you have.
Try this one http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274
