Black screen with blinking cursor .. stuck ! !

Had a terrific electrical rain storm this AM ... decided to shut down computer .... it was trying to install updates .... I shutdown anyway... now ....

All I get is a black screen with blinking cursor ....
Tried F8 but no option (even safe mode) won't work, goes back to black screen
Tried Del .. checked boot sequence .. goes back to black screen
Tried booting with XP disc ... it's like it won't see the disc ... goes to black screen

Hopefully someone else will have an idea for me to try. Really would appreciate it.

Sounds more like a hardware problem to me. Can you get into BIOS(a.k.a. Setup)?

Does it say anything about S.M.A.R.T. drive diagnostics?

I decided to go another way ....

I tried Spotmau PowerSuite, repairs unbootable PC's, but it didn't work.

So I am reinstalling XP. Felt like I had no other options. powersuite was reporting to me that windows was corrupted.
