Win7 x64 and zip/unzip apps

Last night, I installed a clean copy of Win7 x64 Home Premium. So naturally, I'm now reloading all my apps and what not. I'm a HUGE fan of TUGzip, but it seems that it does not integrate into the Windows shell (AKA the context menu or right-click menu) with 64bit version of Windows (Vista and 7). I read online that 7zip works with x64 Vista, so I tried it with Win7 x64 and no joy with the right-click menu there either. I did some poking about, and found this info, but I can't make any sense of it. It's about getting TUGzip to work with x64 Vista's right-click menu, so I'm hoping the same will apply to Win7 x64. I've read it, and re-read it, but it just doesn't seem to make any sense to me. But then again, sometimes the obvious goes right past me. So, if anyone can point me to a zip/unzip app that works with the right-click menu in Win7 x64, or can enlighten me as to how to get TUGzip working (or 7zip if necessary but TUGzip is greatly preferred), I'd appreciate it. I will NOT use WinZIP, and I'd really like to avoid using WinRAR if possible.

I think his solution is not what you want as it would be limited usefulness. It is basically creating a shortcut to Windows Explorer in 32 bit mode. So you would have to click that shortcut to start an instance of explorer in 32 bit mode and then browse to your zipped file to right-click and extract it.

I guess you could try it and put the shortcut on your taskbar and when you wanted to unzip a file use that shortcut to browse to the file. It should show tugzip options in the context menu. Doesn't seem much easier than just opening tugzip.

That's odd. I know that I have 7-zip on my win7 x64 installation, and the right click menu for 7zip is there.

I agree. If I right click on a zip file, and select "Open", the TUGzip window opens and I can extract from there, so it's not a BIG problem, but it's an extra step. Hopefully the man behind TUGzip is working on this x64 issue (*fingers crossed*).

That is strange. I'll re-install it later and see what happens. Maybe there's a separate 64bit version I overlooked? Or a 64bit option during setup that I missed?

Nope I used the version hosted here at MG which apparently isn't fully x64 compatible (maybe an admin can add the x64 version? or mention that the 32bit version here isn't 100% 64bit compatible?). While at work today, I checked the 7zip home page and saw they have an x64 version which I downloaded and installed, and naturally it works perfectly. But thanks for the link above anyway... hopefully someone else will need it, and I'd bet someone will as more people are going with x64 versions of Windows.
