Is it ok to mix Cat 5 and Cat 5e? I only have very much 5e. Also, at what legnth does the speed start to drop? I have to run about a 75ft line.

If it's any help, I have a 40' run of CAT5 (only) with no problems.

75 ft. is fine. The limitations on any ethernet cabling is at least 100ft. and I may be mistaken about that, even... it may be 200ft. But if 75 ft. is all you're worried about... don't. That's well within the limitations.

The maximum length for Ethernet cable (regardless of CAT-5 vs CAT-5e) is 100 meters. That's for both 10BaseT and 100BaseT networks... for any BaseT network. Coax (-Base2 or -Base5) goes further, and fiber (-BaseF) goes much further, IIRC.

I used cat6 throughout the house, then found I only had cat 5 or 5e for the router to LAN connection (and for my own PC). Works fine!
