Default sudden decrease of FTP download speed

Hey Guys,

some days ago my FTP download speed suddenly decreased from ~1 mbit/s to ~20 kbps/s.
I didn't change any settings in my FTP client or server and also tried another client software. I contacted my hosting provider, and they said that they are downloading with good speed.

I don't know what else to do and hope you can help me.

Regards,
NexPax

Are you able to TRACERT to the destination? That may tell you if there's a lag between you and the FTP server somewhere and help pinpoint where the lag is.

Try the same server on a different computer. Also, try a different server on the same computer.

Hey Guys,

thanks for your replies.
I tried to download from another PC in my network, same result. Unfortunately I don't have another FTP server to download from, so I couldn't try that.

Tracert gave me back:

It looks like your largest lag is occurring at hop #9: "9 142 ms 104 ms 70 ms 20g.ams-1-6k.routers.ovh.net [94.23.122.133]". If you own the FTP server in question, you could try contacting the ISP through which it is hosted and asking them about it. The IP with the lag looks like it belongs to ovh.net, which appears to be the same domain as the destination. Other than that, there may not be much you can do about it because of the route you are taking. I can say that I've seen worse than 142ms response times in tracert's when troubleshooting other problems.

Hey Guys,

thanks again for your replies.
It just came to me that I do have another ftp server. The download speed there is a lot faster than on the other one. So I think we can be sure that the problem is somewhere on the way. I guess I have to contact my provider again.

The trace you asked for:

Tracing route to zdawg32.com [64.20.63.226]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1

6 38 ms 34 ms 38 ms uk-lon01a-rd3-ge-0-0-0.aorta.net [84.116.130.253]
