Browser redirect

Greetings MajorGeeks,

I hate for my first post to be a cry for help, but I am trying to help out a buddy that is getting browser redirects and tabs popping up.
Vista Home premium 32bit,firefox, and AVG free in use. I followed all the steps as indicated in the READ ME thread and have attached the logs.
ComboFix generated a BSOD and reboot so it was unable to generate a log, but it did mention possible rootkit activity.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

I got the OK from my friend to format and reinstall. I will install the recommended apps and advise him to practice safe surfing in the future.

Can I be reasonably sure that a repartition,format and install from the Vista DVD has removed the malware? Should I rescan and verify?

Have you already formatted the machine? No doubt this redirect issue could have been fixed if you had just waited a little longer. I hope you haven't took to such extreme measures but I do understand the frustration from your point of view.

A total format should clear all traces of malware, yes, however, you could of course begin a new thread and have the logs looked over by one of us if you wanted to make sure.

Yes I have already repartitioned, reformatted and installed Vista.
I think it was time for a fresh install. It really didn't take too much work on my part to get him set up properly, thanks to the guides here at MG. I just hope he will practice due diligence in the future.
