cross over cable

heres the setup. both computers are windows XP (pro and home)
host computer (pro) with external cable modem hooked up with USB 2.0.
client computer (home) connected to host by Cross Over cable Trying to share the internet connection.

when i try to switch my cable modem over to network cable instead of the USB it doesn't recongize it.

so the two questions are:
how do i get the host computer to recongize the network cable.
how do i get the client computer to access my connection via the cross over cable.

 

i think i've seen it all now...
