video editing suggestions?

I need to edit the sound and the brightness of a video. Does anyone know of some good software that will enable me to do that? The video is in the mpeg format. I would also like to know of a good converter that will convert mpeg files to avi files quickly.

 

Try Adobe Premier. Just download it with kazaa or something - It is extreamly good

There are 2 free programs which can do MPG>AVI conversion:
-TEMPGEnc - you have a direct download link here. This program let you convert MPG
to AVI, convert audio / change sample rate, cut a MPG1/MPG2. No sound edit.
-Virtual Dub - it's a great freeware to edit AVI
Here you have a direct download link. It let you covert audio but no audio editing.

Nero (burning software) has an audio editor which can be very helpfull sometimes.
I suggest you also to search the net with Google. For advanced audio edit:
-Sound Forge (Sonic Foundry product)
-Cool Edit (Syntrillium product)

- you also can try Ulead Video Studio7. It's about 75MB!
