Sound Editor?

Any recommendations for a good sound editor? What I have is a colection of old (like, really old -- 50s and 60s) vinyl 33s I'd like to transcribe onto cd. The albums (remember that term?) have been stored and knocked around for years and are in low average to bad shape (i.e. badly scratched and some are warped). I'd guess I need a decent turntable and amplifier too. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeah, I'm running XP on a P4 2.4 mg. with a WD30gig. hd @ 7200 rpm. Nero burning software.

i use wave repair

record from the turntable in wave files..... fix them (can take minutes, hours, or DAYS if you are picky!) and then save them as MP3's using dBPower AMp

Somehow it seems wrong to rip from vinyl, spend days removing pop and hiss, and then convert the result to a lossy digital compression format.

Maybe you should try Monkey's Audio?

 

Just burn your nicely restored Wav files onto a CD and play it off that. No loss...

Also, have a look for Steinburg CLEAN!, ive heard its quite good for restoring recordings.
