Ok so here's what's up. I built a win2k box for my partner about a year ago, now my partner's 11 year old girl is now into games (SIMS) most of which won't run on win2k so I thought no probs, I have a spare 25 gb hdd so I'll load win 98 on it and make the system dual boot.
I downloaded Boot Switcher so that life would be easy but I don't think it likes booting off two HDDs, at least it won't do it for me.
Anyone out there got any ideas on Boot Switcher, or at least tips on how to edit the win2k boot.ini file so that I can dual boot this machine, or some other freeware which will do the job? .....the 11 year old girl is driving me mad!!!! :(

that's everything you need to know about editing the boot.ini. Might I simply suggest that you update to windows XP though? It would probably run everything she wants to and no doubt would be easier

As it turned out, Boot Switcher managed to corrupt win2K so badly that I had to reload it so I made it dual boot from the win2k boot screen.

FW190- I'm not a gamer but my apprentice who is tells me that there are still lots of games out there which won't run on XP

Anyway thanks guys for your help. That's what I love about this place, there is always someone who can help out. Thanks!!!

THIS PAGE might help you to get The Sims working on Win2k.

I'm honestly surprised it doesn't work. Win2k has compatibility mode, too (although it is kind of hard to find ). That's a very new game to not work right. The newest game I know of is Mech Warrior 2: Mercenaries, and that was 97-ish.

More recent versions of the game have been recoded to work with XP/2k (because, well, they kinda had to). You might be able to go to the bargin bin and find one that works with Win2k. Or, you could wait for The Sims 2, which is supposed to be out 1st quarter next year.
