Default malwarebytes site gets blocked

Greetings all.....i do have some sort of malware on my puter . Two things it's doing is blocking me from going to any sites with the words spy or malware in the addy's . The other thing it has done is dissable my panda updater ! . When i try to update , it says *not connected* . I am however . Today i was told of your site ( thanks all for the great site it is !! ) and started from step one to clean my computer of trojans and virus . I got SuperAnti spyware and combofix downloaded , but as soon as i click on ''malwarebytes'' a window pops up saying
'' cannot connect to address'' or something like that . I understand i need to change the mbam.exe to mb.exe BUT i can't get that far !! . Should i continue on with the clean up process or is it a waste of time ??.....thanks guys/gals for your help................larry b

Just continue on with the Read and Run First instructions and attach the logs that you can get. IF something doesn't work, just skip it.

Hi Tim....thanks for helping me but it looks useless here for me . I have done everything i can from the ''read and run me'' page . I could only get one log (root repel) which i will include here . Malwarebytes wont run....combo fix won't run......and MGtools just runs and runs . All programs were off , panda anti-virus was off and now it won't even start up since i shut it down ! . I figured I would load AVG for now and it did download fine...but same thing...will not start up !! . This virus i have does this.......stops me from going anywhere off of google but if i copy and paste into address bar it will go , no problem unless it is a malware/spy removal site , then i get '' can't find server'' window . Also see now that if i go to Kijiji , i can go to the first page , but as soon as i click on lets say , motorcycles , it just shows the window where it's trying to go there but that little circle in the window bar just spins and spins . I have just about given up bro....and i did follow the forum instructions to a T . Anyways...here's the only log i could get......thanks tim for your help...i do appreciate you helping out us old retired farts....well...me at least !!......larry

Have you tried renaming the scans? Have you tried changing the extension to .com rather than .exe?

What happens when you try to run MGTools.exe? Have you tried running any of the scans in safe mode?

You could try using a different computer and creating this disc and then booting the infected machine to the disc:
Kaspersky Rescue Disk.

Thanks big time Tim !!............went into ''safe mode'' --disabled ''restore'' and tried running superantispy , malwarebytes ect . It took 6-7 hours to run them but worth it !!
Found a whack of crap , quarantined it and i'm happy to say i am 99% clean . Panda is working now and has updated finally !! . Only problem seems to be with firefox . Mi firefox homepage was ''google.com'' , somehow that got changed to ''google.ca'' AND WILL NOT go back to ''google.com'' !!........also with firefox...it still will not allow me to open ''kijiji''....I have found using IE , i have no problem with either of those issues . I would just delete firefox and reinstall but am afraid i will lose my ''favorites'' or am i worried over nothing ??.......once more Tim...i owe ya bro....some cold canadian beers in the fridge with your name on 'em !!!..........thanks mucho !!!.........larry

We are going to be uninstalling your old version of FireFox and installing the new version. So do the below to save bookmarks:
  • Run FireFox and click Bookmarks.
  • Then select Organize Bootmarks.
  • Then on the next window click File and then select Export. Save the bookmarks.html file to your Desktop for later use in importing.

Now download and save the installer for the current version of FireFox but DO NOT install it yet. Get it here: Mozilla FireFox

You will need to exit FireFox now and use Internet Explorer to continue with the below until we reinstall FireFox.

Start by uninstalling FireFox and then reboot. Do not skip the reboot.
After reboot, delete the below folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\Diane\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

where UserAccount is the actual user account name being used.

Now reinstall FireFox from the file previously downloaded.
Import your bookmarks file. (similar process to exporting).

Is FireFox working okay now?

Good to know.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
  1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
  2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
    • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
    • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
      • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
      • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

  3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
  4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
  5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
  6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
  7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
  8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
  9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

  10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
