what does everyone use and why do you think it is the best.

What does it do better than other defrag software.

    Much thanks,

I just use the one in windows for my HD's, and a program called "FastDefrag" for my RAM.

I've been trying to use the bare min 3rd party software, otherwise things start to look messy.

Vopt XP is the absolute best in my opinion. And don't let the name fool you, it works on 98SE, 2000 and ME. It is just simply faster, allows you to shut down runnings apps or do a clean restart and defrag. It also performs a better defrag than anything else I have used.

Diskeeper Lite. Works great and the price is right.

I'm with Raider on this one. Vopt XP is great.

Diskeeper - very fast and efficient, programmable, file/folder exclusion list, can run in the background (set it and forget it)...

Vopt xp and diskeeper are two of the best I've used. I like the set and forget it method on diskeeper so thats what i've been using lately.

I use Diskeeper Pro v 8.0.459.0. Never go back to the '98/XP defragger now. Diskeeper is very fast and easy. Explains the whole process very nicely. A must have program IMO.

O&O is my favorite for 2000/XP. Defragging multiple hard drives at once, boot time defragmentation to take of locked files, and sorting files by name, modification date, or recently accessed. For 9x I prefer diskeeper.

O&O is just perfect for all defrag needs ( basically the Dogs Bits of defrag IMO ) ..... as Josh said it handles all forms of defrag you may want to use Space, Name, Access, Date etc

Boot time defragmentation of any given file including Paging file, Registry, Master File Table (MFT) on NTFS and any other file, user-defined.

VoptXP maybe ok when using 9x or XP with Fat32 but NTFS doesnt need the same lets all lump the files together in one contigious mass that VoptXP likes to do.

Plus faster is not always better ;)
