Anyone else have & fix MS Security Essentials MsMpEng.exe process running 50 - 100 % CPU usage??? I see google has a few articles about this occuring, but no fix. I've installed this for on other user and they called me a week later because the PC was dragging, so I uninstalled MSSE from their laptop and everything cleared up. I'm saying 2 strikes and MSSE is outta here. Its either Avast or AVG freebies from now on. BTW the systems were XP SP3.

Not been an issue on my machine. Wonder if it has to do with single vs. dual core.

It could be that it's just updated to the latest scanner version and is running a full scan, the upgraded version was being pushed out about a week ago.

Not here satrow - I don't have automatic updating on and I don't let it scan to a schedule.

Very strange as my usage is at 0%. It's just sitting there. ;)

Yes, it is strange, as I've just had a look at MSE on an XP SP3 VM I have and it isn't showing any unusual activity at all.

I haven't done anything to it other than the normal set up. I think I have auto updating on and scheduled scans on Sunday afternoons. Even when it is scanning, there is only a slight change in performance. :confused Though the scans are set to quick scan.

Mine was at 0%, then I would click on My Computer, on C:, or my CD-Rom and POW!!! through the roof!!! And it wouldn't let go until I task killed it & MSSE would pop up a warning about the stopped service and restart it at 0%.. so I guess it is a good progam to run at idle.. and people love to flame Norton AV.. Norton never go me this ticked off.
I have panda cloud on my VM for testing.. seems ok so far.

Well I didn't uninstall as I realised that the extra activity could be related to a resident program I had installed a few hours before. Today all is back to normal with MSE, so maybe it has satisfied itself that this newcomer is OK after all ;)
