    Hey all,

My browser's really acting weird -- sluggish, jerky. Below is a log file from Hijack This. Anyone see anything wrong?

    Just popping by and curious:

Why in the world are you running Access, Word, and WinZip (for crying out loud!) when you're running IE and OE???

You didn't tell us how much RAM you've got, but it better be a LOT to pull all of those gas-guzzlers while you're surfing.

And what is acc.count-all.com? It has complete control of your browser.

Oh, heavens, I never had a problem before with all these programs (it's computer at work). It was after doing some surfing yesterday that this happened. I know, too, there must be a hijack going on, because my browser home page gets changed here and there!

    thanks for the info!

After you've installed and run all of the usual suspec,... er, utilities, come back and let us know how it has gone, eh?

Ya gotta kill that thing that took over the browser, and simple deletions and resetting your home page and such ain't gonna do it.

Glad you have Hijack This! already, cuz that'll let you check to see that all of the nasties ARE gone, when they're gone.

All those R1 and R0 entries show you have been hijacked. Allow Hijack This to fix those.

    WELL, WE BE ROCKIN'!

Okay, I got it fixed, but not just with Hijack This. I first did some cleaning with Hijack, but I must have missed something or it didn't detect the culprit. So I ran Adware and Spybot. That did the trick! (I can't do any other adjustments to the system, because this is a work-computer at my job.)

Oddly enough, though, after running Hijack again (after I ran Adware and Spybot) to check the differences from what was in the old log with what's now in the new log, I didn't see any differences, at least not without doing a line-by-line check. So, I figure Hijack might not have caught the culprit.

Anyway, here's the current log after running Adware and Spybot and then Hijack again:

The only R0 is fine; that's my company's web site. Otherwise, I can't see anything else that could be a problem. The system's running fine now (whew!).

Hey, thanks all for your advise, folks. I hope I return the help on this board!

    Question

I don't want to worry but isn't AdAware only free to use on non-comercial systems (i.e., non-work)? The license agreement at:
    Software License Agreement

    states:
    1. License Grant. This License permits you to use one copy of the Software solely for your internal, non-commercial, operations on a single computer.

  9. ANHEDONIC

    ANHEDONIC Will Title For Food

Maxwell that's like worrying about cutting the tag off your mattress...

  10. Maxwell

    Maxwell Folgers

 I don't understand - this is purely an academic enquiry.

Why would AdAware put such a statement in their agreement? Perhaps I've misinterpreted it and that "non-comercial" means don't use for commercial purposes (e.g. for your computer repair business) rather than don't use on commercially benefitted or business machines (e.g. on your work's machine as Starkman had done)?

    GOOD POINT

    Maxwell,

Good point. I've used Ad-Ware so many times in the past on computers of my own that I never even went through the license agreement when I installed it this last time on my work computer.

Yes, you do have a good point.

    Thanks very much,

    Starkman

I believe it means that you're okay as long as you don't use AdAware for a profit, i.e. sell it to someone else or collect service charge for a scan with this program on another computer.

This is what's commonly defined as "commercial use".
