network access

have linksys wireless gateway.
fujitsu laptop xp with wireless card and ethernet port.
just removed all network adaptors on it. left the wireless card out and rebooted. came back up and found the ethernet card just fine. ran join home network and configured to the local workgroup. ran set up internet connections to go via lan. have dial up set if network isnt working.
rebooted
when i try to go to the web it wants to dial up.
tried ipconfig just now without the cable in(by mistake)and got the default address when your not wired in. but it sees the adaptor at this point. plugged the cable in and did another ipconfig and get "an error occured while renewing interface local area network 2 an operation was attempted on something that is not a socket"

if you try to repair the lan2 connection it says renewing ip address failed. contact admin.
if you try to repair the 1394 connection2 it indicates that tcp/ip is not enabled for the connection.

what where am i neglecting to set?

linksys is set to be a gateway and normally works fine with this unit.

 

You have a broken winsock.


Uninstall any firewalls you have, and then:

Start-run, regedit.

.Backup and delete these keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinSock2

Reboot the computer.


Go to the properties of your local area connection.


Go to Install, Protocol.

Click Add.

Cklick Have Disk.

In copy manufacturewr files from, type C:\windows\inf, provided your windows directory is located at C:\windows.


Click ok.

Choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click ok.


Click ok all the way out.

Reboot.

 

using restore seems to have fixed me back to prior working state
