I have a Dell Studio 1735, Vista 64 bit, 6GB Core 2Duo CPU, 2.67 GHZ. More than a week ago my monitor went fuzzy white, with the desktop icons barely visible behind this semi white out. I did a restor and it went away. Sometime later it came back, I went back further. Cleaned it up, again, for awhile, but STILL wound up going total white out. I knew it was not a monitor issue because the screen was fine in safe mode.

In total frustration I wound up going back to factory state. A few days later, it did it again. I had a hissy fit then calmed down and reinstalled windows. The next day it did it again. After all of this I have finally determined that it was a Windows Update that did all of this. This one:

Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

    Download size: 19.5 MB

    Update type: Important

Intel Corporation Display software update released in August, 2010

So, I have unchecked it, and done all the other updates, but I really want to have Windows update automatically so how can I exclude just this one particular update?
