Well, I puckered up and upgraded my HD4870 to a spankin new Powercolor HD6970 . (Running Phenom 2 x4 940 @ 3.0 Ghz) . The performance increase is amazing. So much so that I was easily able to win some games I previously couldnt, apparently due to stuttering and slow framerates. I hadn't even thought of that aspect of upgrading my GPU.
Point being (besides bragging about my new GPU) I'm a big racing game fanatic, I love the Flat Out series for it's super fun, arcade-style smash-em-up action, to Shift 2 Unleashed, which is more of a simulator style - not as rollicking fun as Flat Out, but certainly fun in it's own right and very challenging and difficult . Any other racing game fans out there ? What racing games are you playing ? |

The Nascar series is always fun if you're into the circle-track type racing. A 43-car parking lot at 185Mph is always fun if you're using a wheel and pedal setup.
Need For Speed Carbon has been a favorite of mine since it was first released as well. Would be nice if Microsoft would release a windows version of Forza Motorsport, I dont see why they haven't.

Oh I didn't mention, I only have a logitech gamepad, no steering wheel/pedal setup.
I don;t think ive tried any of the Need For Speed series, I have all the Flat Out's, Shift 2 Unleashed, Grid, and Bunout Paradise Ultimate box set. I spend most of gaming time playing Flat Out UC and Shift 2 . Local Game Stops and Fry's never really have many racing games, so I guess maybe some online research followed by an Amazon search once I've found one I think i might like may be a good approach . |

IMO, NASCAR Racing 2003 Season (Papyrus/Sierra) was the best racing sim ever created. Don't let the '2003' fool you - there is still a very strong mod base, with conversions for the Car Of Tomorrow (or, as it's now named: the Car Of Today).
Having problems running it on a Win 7 64-bit machine, though - runs great on XP 32-bit platforms.

Yeah, but a good disk is worth it - I've had mine for 7-8 years, never a hitch.
A couple of good mod sites for NR2003: MasGrafx and Team SBR. .

Not sure if i can see myself paying that much for a USED game . . . If they are going for that much USED, seems like the company could produce batches of new ones .
Heck, a 2011 version for PS3 doesn't even cost as much ! |

Geez. Of course, I would NEVER consider torrenting a PIRATED version, but if I WERE that type of person, this would be the type of situation that would tempt me to do so, but I wont do it . Since I'm not that type of person .

I ordered one thing from Ebay one time, and got ripped off. I will never order from Ebay again . Shame Papyrus/Sierra doesn't offer it for download at a reasonable price. Guess they are out of business . I'm certainly not paying $70 for an 8 year old game .

they are a little bit the same, with blur you have powerups and split second also but you use more the environment.
something like a gas trailer you blow up, etc slpit second i have myself so i know that one much better.

Thats what I love about the FLAT OUT series, your entire environment is destructible . Some of the race tracks involve driving 100 MPH through the glass facade of shopping malls, and you can find shortcuts by smashing through barn doors etc. With Flat Out, I don't really care if I win or lose the race, its fun either way. Shift 2, however, is a much more precise type of play, and you have to be consistent every lap, or you lose. It just "feels" like more of a simulation, while FLAT OUT "feels" like an arcade game .
I havent played any racing game with powerups, not sure how I would feel about that , I want to try it and see (Blur). And Split Second sounds like something I should check out as well . |

If you are getting into racing sims and if you buy a wheel and want 'about' the most realistic experience then GT Legends, GTR and GTR2 as well as race07 and Evo is about the best you will get. Shift & Shift 2 are more arcade but still fun!

I enjoy arcade style more. I really don't see myself buying steering wheel/pedals . The closer a game gets to an actual simulation, the more serious I take it, which, in turn, causes me to get angry when i mess up, which is VERY common, even on Shift 2 .
I want to keep things lighthearted and fun . I like to play games, not operate simulators . Does that make sense ? Last edited by FED UP; 06-11-11 at 06:40.. Reason: grammar/punctuation |
