No sound device?

I dont know how to figure out what my o/s and all the other stuff to figure out what driver I need but my sound hasnt worked in like 2 months and I want it back. PLEASE help!! Also if you could tell me how to figure out my system info Id be grateful :-)

follow these inputs to get to the driver download....

1. Microsoft windows.
2. XP.
3.Audio.
4.Via AC'97.

Download and follow prompts on install, re-boot your machine to allow your system to recognise the changes.

HEy, its not working, I restarted the comp after downloading it but I still get the message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

Any more tips?
