Default Problems conecting to the wireless internet

I have an IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop, I used to be able to connect to the router in my house with no problems, but recently Im having trouble staying online for more that a few minutes at a time.

The problem is that when I conect, after a few minutes the pages or anything that is loading suddenly stops, the way I fix this problem is clicking on the wireless settings on the lower right corner and hit "rescan", it then reconects to the router and everything starts loading again, but I have to constantly do this to stay on the internet.

I dont have much of this problem while on most text pages like wikipedia or these forums, but on more "data heavy" pages like youtube or one with lots of flash ads my connection gets lost.

The settings I click are
Intel(R) PRO 2011b LAN PCI Adapter
Network Driver - Version: 1.13.01 Date: Jan 8 2002
Configuration Utility - Version 1.13.1 Date: Jan 4 2002
NIC Firmware - Version 1.04.09.00

The part where I can see that it shows that it isnt conected says
Current Tx Rate: 11 Mbits/sec (ok connection)
Current Tx Rate: 1 Mbits/sec (no page loads or downloading happens)

It usually changes from 11 to 5 or 2, but if it reaches 1 it stays there and doesnt connect to anything.

The router I have is a Thomson tg588v7 router, I had a diferent model before but never got this problem.

I algo got my harddrive reinstalled last year, the one before had Windows XP and did not had the intel LAN adapter thing and had no problem conecting to the past and actual routers.

I have reinstalled that driver but with no success, and if I uninstall it also uninstalls the Win XP default wireless signal searcher thing in the lower right corner.

Any sugestions on what to do?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Im the only one with this problem in my house, my sister recently bought a laptop and has no problems with the connection, is my laptop getting dated for the internet?

Hi

I think the first thing I would try is to disable any antivirus, firewall or security applications you have installed that are not part of Windows (so if you just use Defender and the Windows Firewall then leave them enabled).

Scan for malware also on your PC, to rule that out as a cause of connection loss, you could also connect via ethernet and see if you still get connection issues being hardwired.

Thanks for the info, I did changed the settings for the windows firewall, not sure how much it helped but the problem seems to be solved.

I reinstalled the "intel(r) pro 2011b lan pci adapter" and changed a few default settings in the first steps of the instalation, one was to change the data transfer to 11Mbps because it seemed to go at random before that, in was set to automatic; the second one was to change one option to 802.11g since it was algo in auto I believe.

Im not having anymore troubles with my connection to my router, so I would say the information above is a possible solution.

Thanks for all the help and have a nice day.

Hi

Cheers for the update and it could have been a setting or app that was blocked that should not have been blocked, the Windows Firewall does a fair job of working out what needs to be blocked or not, its when we tinker/tweak the settings that a knock off issue can cause a lose of functionality.

Indeed it was a good idea to re-install the LAN driver.
