Google Redirect

    Happens with Firefox 7.0.1 and Google Chrome. I downloaded and tried Kaspersky tdskiller.exe. It found nothing. I'm running Windows XP Pro.

    I ran MBR Check and it seems to have worked as I'm no longer being hijacked / redirected when I do a Google search. Is there a software that will prevent this from happening to me again? How does one become infected with this virus?

    What we asked you to run was just a scan. It does not fix anything unless you did something other than what was in the instructions. So what did you do exactly and are you sure you are not being redirected anymore?


    [/quote] Since you did not attach any logs, I have no idea what problems you actually had or still have. But to answer your question, no there is really no sure way to prevent many of the new infections that occur. The best bet is to have proper protection installed and to educate yourself and any other people using the PC on safe surfing habits. The below is a recommended guide:

    I decided to fix it as it found a problem.

    I now have another problem as the hard drive is making a constant clicking noise and everything has slowed down to a crawl and is unusable. Think the hard drive may be blown so I'm going to replace it and reinstall Windows XP Pro
