Hi folks, got a real brainache here with my Mum's laptop.

She had a trial version of Mcafee and she didn't like it, so she didn't want to pay to continue using it.

Problem arose when she called me to say that she couldn't access the internet. When I had a look at her Windows 7 home edition laptop, I could see that she was getting a constant "Fatal Error" popup that wouldn't go away. It pops up several times following a reboot.

    The popup reads:
Fatal Error! Cannot load language mapping DLL. Please reinstall filtering application.

If you right clicked on the icon that appeared in the task bar, the "Mcafee Family Protection Client Application" is showing.

I reinstalled a free version of Mcafee again and the problem went away, but whatever software I installed afterwards to try and completely remove it, Mcafee threw a fit and tried to block it or wouldn't allow it to install.

I've tried so many removal options now that I'm starting to think I'll never get rid of it.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

Try ti uninstall it using Revo Uninstaller.
Choose the option on the bottom of the list (#4). Be very careful while deleting the bolded registry items ONLY!! This software will create a system restore point for you as well prior to uninstalling a software program.

Thank you Kestrel31!, I downloaded Revo Uninstaller and wasn't too sure what you mean't about "choose option #4, but "hunter mode" did locate the folder where the annoying Mcafee popup stuff was hiding.

I would never have found it in this folder, so thank you for that.

    So, the popup has gone, but I still can't get internet access. Mcafee is still blocking any browser from accessing the internet, it says;

    McAfee
"The filter application could not be started"
Please ensure that you do not have any firewall or antivirus software which is preventing Family Protection from reaching the internet.

The URL address bar shows the following:
    denied.mcafeefamilytprotection.com/mfp.php?lang=en-US&affid=691&site=
followed by the site address I'm trying to access

I can't understand how Mcafee Family Protection is still working after I've tried everyway to delete all things Mcafee.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

    **Issue Fixed - Update**
If you've used all of the removal tools available to completely remove McAfee from your system, but still get this page when you access your browser:

    McAfee
"The filter application could not be started"
Please ensure that you do not have any firewall or antivirus software which is preventing Family Protection from reaching the internet.

then you may have the same issue I had.

There were some registry entries residing in one or many "USER" folders that were allowing McAfee to run the "so-called" protection on my browser. I used Perfect Uninstaller to remove them.

I followed the instructions here: http://professional-suggestion.com/04/how-to-completely-uninstall-mcafee-family-protection.html

I'm now have internet access without McAfee completely gone. I hope this saves someone the frustration I went through.

    All the best
    Phill
