    Hi,

The My Books seem to have a design flaw in the soldering of the usb port to the board in the enclosure. I'm not sure if this is your exact problem. I'll drop a couple of links to the wdc forum for you to read through to give you a little background. One has a few pictures of inside the enclosure.

If your mini-USB connector has come off the circuit board then there is very little chance of getting any data off the HD. The circuit board besides making the connection from PC to HD also encrypts the data and once the USB connector becomes broken few if any have had success retrieving data.

The HD itself can be removed from the enclosure, formatted and used as a normal HD but your present data probably can't be saved.

There is always the chance that your usb situation is unique and the solder points haven't been broken so please post any details if you think the above links don't apply to your situation.
