Default new board windows 2000

Love the new layout of the site!!!!! I'm about to try something I haven't tried before and need some assistance. Can I put a new motherboard in my case and expect windows 2000 to recognize the new board without having to reload? I know sometimes it works on xp machines......

Probably not.

Windows 2k and Xp have the same issue.

They cannot dynamically load different IDE controller drivers on the fly.
Which means your old motherboard ide controller drivers are loaded.

If you try to boot with the new motherboard and the ide controlllers are incompatible with those drivers, you will get a Stop 0x7b, Inaccessible Boot Device.

If the drivers are compatible, then yes, you will likely be able to boot.

You are changing motherboards. You already have Windows
on your hard drive, and want to know if it would work with the new
motherboard. The answer is yes and no, yes if you're using the exact same
motherboard, or something really close. No if your new motherboard is totally different.

Otherwise, reinstall Windows. Motherboards have lots of equipment on
them, all of which requires drivers. The drivers tell Windows how to
interact with the equipment. When you put in a new motherboard, you're
installing new equipment, which needs different drivers. Your old
installation of Windows is geared for the wrong equipment.
