My WIn 2000 TCP/IP config apears to be broken - when I go to Network & Dial-up Connections, select Advanced, and Network Identification, I can't change either my full computer name or domain. The Note says : The identification of this computer can not be changed because: Networking is not installed or is not properly configured.
I'm running W2K on a latop that I upgraded last year from NT. TCP/IP works, in that I can surf the web. ping other PCs, telnet, ftp. However, I need to change my domain so I can share files on my home LAN. Suggestion on what I should reload? thanks! |

you don't need to change your domain to share files.. just use the IP in the UNC..
start...run.. (example) \\192.168.1.100\c$

ok, but I thought it was a WIN2K Server option, not WIN2k Professional. Do you think I can start it? (suggestions would be appreciated) |

in order to connect to a pc that is in a domain, it must be used for pass-through authentication.
You can turn it on in your computer-management or services snap in
